Paul DeChant, MD, MBA, is a speaker, coach, and advisor to healthcare executives on managing critical problems such as financial and staffing challenges by addressing the root causes of clinician burnout. After 25 years of practicing family medicine in a variety of settings around the country, he became CEO of the Sutter Gould Medical Foundation. Here he led a transformation that achieved recognition for the group as the highest performing among 170 medical groups across California two years in a row, while improving physician satisfaction from the 45th to 87th percentile on American Medical Group Association’s Provider Satisfaction Survey.
He received his MD from Oregon Health Sciences University and his MBA from the University of Colorado—Denver. He is the co-author of the book, Preventing Physician Burnout: Curing the Chaos and Returning Joy to the Practice of Medicine, speaks internationally and publishes a blog.

Bruce D. Cummings, LFACHE, is an innovative healthcare leader with a distinguished 40-year career in the hospital and healthcare industry. Now, he highlights the role of leaders and leadership practices in reducing the incidence and severity of burnout in healthcare.
Cummings has worked in urban and rural settings, large and small provider organizations, and independent and systems-based hospitals. He previously served as president/CEO of L+M Healthcare (Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, Westerly Hospital, Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Connecticut and a hospital-affiliated medical group practice) and executive vice president of Yale New Haven Health. He is a former chair of the board of directors of both the Maine Hospital Association and Connecticut Hospital Association. Upon his retirement, Cummings became a Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and received the T. Stewart Hamilton, MD Award for Distinguished Service from the Connecticut Hospital Association in recognition of his efforts to improve the health of Connecticut residents and for excellence in management.
He is a graduate of Colby College and received his master’s degree in health services administration from the Yale School of Public Health.
